Instructions for Installing the Market Value Updates

First of all, download the files from the Downloads page on our website to the directory you install the Village Collector to, normally that would be C:\VCWIN. Then you can use Windows Explorer to Run the update file. (The website tells you what the file name is for each file you wish to download) This will just expand the compressed files, but will not install them. Start the Village Collector software. By selecting Update Market Values from the Utilities menu, you will get a small box with two option buttons, CANCEL and "Update Market Value and Image File Names". Cancel will return you to the main menu, while pressing the "Update Market Value and Image File Names" button will go back through all of your databases and add the image file names as well as update your collections with the latest market values and retired dates. As the databases are updated, you will see them flash up on the button you pressed. After the program updates all your databases, you will get a message back saying "All Village Collector Databases Updated with current Market Values!" Press OK and you're ready to go. 

Instructions for Using the New Releases Databases

Click on Update Collections, then on Copy Item to Another Collection.  To copy an item from one collection to another, you first need to select the database you will be copying the item from. Press the Open FROM Database button select the Jan1999.mdb from the dialog box. Then you can press the Open TO Database button and choose a database from the dialog box to copy the files into, for example, your Dickens.mdb. After both databases are selected, simply select an item description from the list on the left side of the page with your mouse, and drag it over to the list on the right and release the mouse button.  It doesn't matter where you drop the item, it will automatically be placed at the top of your database. When you are all finished copying items, press the Done button to return to the main menu. You may need to re-sort your database after this procedure.

On occasion, one of the New Releases databases will lose it's sort order.  If you see all the headings listed first, followed by all the items, you will need to resort the database.  To do that, go to the Update Collections menu and select Sort Collection Items.  Click the Clear List button to reset the sort order, then double-click on Collection ID then Item Number.  Those items should now appear in the box on the right side of the screen.  Click Done.  When the dialog box comes up, select the database that was not in the right order and click OKAY.  Now, go back to the Update Collection menu and select Copy Items to Another Collection.  Now, your database should be in the correct order and will be much easier for you to work with.

Instructions for Installing New Pictures

Download the new images from our website and move them to your C:\VCWIN\IMAGES directory. You will need to Run the program you downloaded to extract the files. For instance, if you downloaded the HV Accessories pictures, you have the AC2.EXE file in your C:\VCWIN\IMAGES directory. By double clicking on that file from Explorer, or by using the Run command, you will extract all the images contained in that file. In order for the program to recognize the images you just added, you will have to also download the latest Market Value Update from our website, then Run the Market Value Update as outlined above. If you have already run the update for the latest retirements, there is no need to run the update again, as the new image files names have already been updated for you.
